What did you want to be in life? - HAPPY!!! :-) - V Rocx
Sunshine was born August 25, 2001 in the high dessert of Apple Valley, California – hence ‘Sunshine’. I drove two hours to look at the litter. I picked up each puppy to look at him or her, and of the five puppies, he was the only one to lick my face. I knew then; he kind of picked me. When he turned three he began service animal training in California. He trained for two years and everyone seemed to say he was the most well behaved Jack Russell terrier they ever met. When he graduated he had to go through a series of tests, loading and unloading from vehicle, distractions of people, shopping carts, the hardest – other animals and various other tests. It was amazing to see how focused on his work he was. Sunshine has broke ground as the first ever Jack Russell terrier service animal. He knows that when he wears his red vest, he is working. When I take it off of him, at dog beach or dog parks, he gets to run and play like any other dog. I got paralyzed from the neck down (quadriplegic) in 1992 from a motorcycle accident (C4-C7 spinal injury). Through determination I worked my way to a single point cane. Sunshine assists me walking up & down stairs and ramps to keep my balance. He recognizes traffic signals, hand signals, commands and has even learned to walk backwards to keep an eye on me to be sure I’m ok getting through crowds. Soon after graduation we met a travel nurse (Amy) and we all became best friends. We took on traveling with her exploring the U.S.A. That’s where all the adventures began. We have explored coast to coast. Since Sunshine is a service animal he gets to go any place I go. We’ve been from top the Empire state building to the space needle in Seattle, WA. We attended a Broadway play, boating in New Orleans waterway, explored the Indian ruins in New Mexico, went to the Alamo, snow sledding in Detroit, MI., fishing in Daytona, FL., crabbing in Lewes, Delaware, played with the Amish in Pennsylvania, visited the Smithsonian Museums in Washington D. C., played the slots in Vegas, won an animal alien costume contest in Roswell, NM, rode a steam engine train to the jail Billy the Kid and Doc Holiday spent time in Silverton, CO, played pirates for Halloween, visited children hospitals at Christmas, go riding on a 1960 Harley Davidson chopper trike to motorcycle rallies, attended New Years Eve balls in his tuxedo, partied during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, flew in a hot air balloon during balloon festival in Albuquerque, NM, and countless other adventures. Continuously living life to the fullest one adventure after another. Sunshine has made many friends throughout our travels and a lot of them are rescue animals. We decided to create a calendar showing all our great adventures to support rescue animals and service animals. When we learned of the heart worm prevention program, we decided to earmark all the calendars, 100% of the profits, for the heart worm prevention program so all rescue dogs can have a happy life of adventures just like Sunshine. To help support order a 2009 Sunshine’s Adventures calendar today!
